Words & Phrases

  • More and more young couples are meeting on dating apps.

    • Less and less are meeting through dating parties.

    • In North America there are speed dating parties. (A social event to have a series of short conversations with potential partners in order to determine whether there is mutual interest)

  • A woman is being investigated for killing her husband.

    • She’s under investigation for killing her husband.

    • There seems only to be circumstantial evidence of her murdering him. (= pointing indirectly towards someone’s guilt)

  • The oldest man in Japan died recently at 110.

  • How many centenarians are there in Japan? (= a person who is a hundred or more years old)

  • Organ donor; a person who donates an organ or organs from their body for transplantation
