Words & Phrases

  • Complexion; (noun) the natural colour or condition of the skin of a person’s face

Appropriacy

When talking about the sounds cicadas make, you can use the following words and phrases:

  • Buzzing – a continuous humming or murmuring sound

  • Chirping – a short, sharp sound, often repeated

  • Drumming – a rhythmic sound produced by rapidly vibrating membranes

  • Singing – a melodic sound made by cicadas, often used to describe their calls

  • Cicada chorus – the combined sounds of multiple cicadas, creating a loud, collective noise
