Words & Phrases

  • My friend took a 10 day course in meditation at a retreat for monks.

    • Our neighbour’s son is training to be a monk.

  • The local high school students are taking a field trip to the museum to learn about ancient history. (= a trip made by students and a teacher to see or study something first hand; visiting a museum, a factory, a historical site etc)

  • Open house; a day when prospective student can visit a school to see what it is like

    • We attended an open house at a private school.

Describing Jobs

Section 1

  • A bricklayer typically uses bricks to construct walls

  • A builder constructs or repairs houses

  • An architect is someone who designs, plans and sometimes supervises the construction of buildings

  • A carpenter is a person who makes and repairs wooden objects or structures

  • A sale representative’s job is to sell goods or products to people

    • Similar as a sales person, sales clerk

  • Sara would make a good sales representative.

    • Sales representative would be a good job for Sara.
