Words & Phrases

  • I went to the doctor for my yearly checkup.

  • My family visited the dentist for a routine checkup.

  • My vacation in Germany went off the rails, so we moved down to Spain. (= something went wrong or became chaotic during the middle of your vacation)

  • Germanic peoples migrated across Europe, bringing new traditions and architecture.

  • I went to a bonsai exhibit in Tachikawa the week before and Phil tagged along.

  • Time permitting, we can stop and have a drink before dinner.

  • Flamenco can be really hard on the joints.

  • My band has a live gig coming up on the 30th.

  • Do you sing?

    • I sang when I was younger.

    • Ok kids, let’s sing a song and then we can have lunch.

  • Shrinkflation is when a company makes a product smaller but keeps the price the same. This way, customers pay the same amount for less.

    • Because of shrinkflation, the chocolate bar I bought is smaller than before, but it costs the same.”

    • Shrinkflation means my favourite chips bag has fewer chips, but I still pay the same price.”

    • With shrinkflation, the juice bottle now holds less, but the price hasn’t changed.

    • Thanks to shrinkflation, my cereal box has less cereal inside for the same amount of money.
