Words & Phrases

• I’ve had a toothache since yesterday. I visited the dentist today, but I didn’t have an appointment.

• I went to the doctor for my yearly checkup.

• My family visited the dentist for a routine checkup.

• My husband needed an emergency trip to the dentist because a tooth fell out.

• Early next year, the price of a lot of commodities is going to skyrocket.

• Many people were against Asao visiting Trump while Biden was still in office. (NOT denied Asao)

• There is a street lined with hundreds of Ginko trees.

• The sides of the road was lined with people watching the parade.

• The garden path was lined with colourful flowers in bloom.

• The shelves were lined with books from floor to ceiling.

• On the university campus there is a small stream that is quite beautiful.

• We visited a popular wetland, the water is warm and the surrounding area is covered with wild plants.

• It’s been a warmer autumn, so the leaves are just now starting to change colour.

Appropriate Language

• “Things happen for a reason." means that events in life, even if we don’t understand them, often have a purpose or lead to something important.

• If you miss a bus but then meet a friend you haven’t seen in a long time, someone might say, "Things happen for a reason!”

• Local means a place that is situated in a more rural or less touristy area, where it caters mostly to locals rather than tourists

• The onsen area is very local, you won’t find many tourists so it’s great!

• My friend comes from a small local town in Hokkaido.
