Fractions

  • Numerator / Denominator; informally “top number over bottom number”

    • 1/4, 3/5, 5/7, 8/9 etc

  • The numerator is read as a common number (cardinal number)

  • The denominator is read as an ordinal number

    • 1/4 = one fourth; informally one over four

    • 3/5 = three fifths; informally three over five

    • 5/7 = five sevenths; informally five over seven

    • 8/9 = eight ninths; informally eight over nine

Vocabulary

  • For sale; available to buy

  • On sale; can buy at a lower price than before

  • Theme ( theem ) (NOT teema )

  • Sign up; (verb) to enrol or register for information, especially by email or by post

  • Make someone look (certain way); (phrase) it means that people think or understand something about that person based on how they look
