Words & Phrases
It’s so cold today that I’m wearing four layers of shirts.
The temperature got down to minus two degrees last night.
My apartment had a fire safety inspection today.
I found an insect larva on my roses. (= singular)
I found insect larvae on my roses. (= plural)
The background music at my dentist was English music.
The music in my dentist’s office is different now. (NOT is renewal now)
The music in my dentist’s office has changed now.
My feet weren’t broken, but I might have hurt a ligament in my ankle.
My ankle is swollen and purple.
I feel stupid. (= adj)
I feel like an idiot. (= noun)
Appropriate Language
I slipped down the stairs.
You didn’t fall completely, just lost control for a moment.
I fell down the stairs.
This means you lost your balance completely and dropped to the ground.
I tumbled down the stairs.
It’s a bit like you were rolling down the stairs.
Weekends

I usually watch a movie (alone / by myself) on weekends.
I usually read a book in bed on weekends.
I usually watch TV in English at home.
I almost always cook a meal for my family.
I sometimes meet friends at a cafe.
I sometimes go shopping in Shinjuku on weekends.
