Vocabulary

  • Muggy; (adj) (of the weather) unpleasantly warm and humid

  • Leg cramp; a sudden, painful tightening of muscles in your leg

Anyways / Anyway

We can use the word anyways / anyway in the following ways

  • to end a conversation

    • A: "Well, I think we've covered everything for the project.”
      B: "Yeah, I agree. Anyway, let's meet again next week to finalize everything.”

    • A: "I should probably get going now."
      B: "Okay, no problem. Anyway, it was great catching up with you!”

    • A: "I have to finish this report by tonight."
      B: "Alright, I won't keep you then. Anyway, good luck with that!”

  • to change the subject

    • A: "Did you hear about the new restaurant that opened downtown?"
      B: "Yeah, I heard good things about it. Anyway, have you decided on your vacation plans for this summer?”

    • A: "I've been thinking about redecorating the living room."
      B: "Oh, really? Anyway, have you seen those new designs in the latest home decor magazine?”

    • A: "I'm so tired of this rainy weather."
      B: "Me too. Anyway, did you hear that the school play got rescheduled due to the weather?”

  • to resume a subject after interruption

    • A: "So, I was thinking about going to the gym after work today..."
      (Phone rings, interrupts conversation)
      B: "Sorry about that. Anyway, you were saying about going to the gym?”

    • A: "We should discuss our strategy for the presentation next week.”
      (Someone knocks on the door, interrupts conversation)
      B: "Oh, hold on a moment. Anyway, what were your ideas for the presentation?”

    • A: "I saw the craziest thing on the news yesterday..."
      (Gets interrupted by a sudden loud noise)
      B: "Whoa, what was that? Anyway, you were saying about the news?"
