Lesson Notes June 25, 2024 (Vocabulary Building)

  • The building was built in the art deco style.

  • I threw away some old winter quilts.

  • I made a day of the museum, I looked at the exhibits and gardens and also had lunch there.

  • Their teachers need to take some courses on how to teach children.

Vocabulary

  • Make a day of (a place / event); to spend an entire day doing activities related to a particular place or event.

  • Pronunciation Note

    • Quilt ( kwɪlt ) a thick blanket made by sewing together layers of cloth

    • Kilt ( kɪlt ) a traditional Scottish skirt-like garment worn by men, typically made of tartan cloth and pleated at the back

Section 6

  • 1 cherry, raspberry, celery, strawberry

    • Celery does not belong. The others are fruits.

  • 2 octopus, veal, duck, turkey

    • Octopus does not belong. The others are poultry.

  • 3 oregano, parsley, peas, rosemary

    • Peas does not belong. The others are herbs.

  • 4 melon, mussels, pineapple, orange

    • Mussels do not belong. The others are fruits.

  • 5 cod, salmon, trout, beef

    • Beef does not belong. The others are types of fish.

  • 6 lettuce, crab, lobster, oyster

    • Lettuce does not belong. The others are seafood.

  • 7 prawns, veal, cheese, mineral water

    • Mineral water does not belong. The others are foods.

  • 8 chicken, turkey, duck, pork

    • Pork does not belong. The others are types of poultry.

  • 9 eggplant, potato chips, cookies, prawns

    • Prawns do not belong. The others are all American English words.

  • 1 “Yes, I think so. Food is important for our bodies. When we eat healthy foods like fruits and vegetables, we feel good and strong. But if we eat too much unhealthy food like candy or chips, we might not feel as good. So, what we eat can affect how we feel and how healthy we are.”

  • 2 I avoid sugary drinks as much as possible.

    • I can drink barely tea to be polite, but I don’t like the taste.

    • I avoid shrimp and crab because I have an allergy.

    • I regularly eat a balanced meal with plenty of vegetables.

    • I avoid eating foods that contain (a lot of / too much) cholesterol. (NOT much cholesterol)
