Lesson Notes June 25, 2024 (Elementary)

  • Did the movie make you feel sick (to your stomach)?

  • Have you started using your air conditioner yet?

    • I got into the habit of only using the dehumidify function.

  • I had the battery replaced in my phone.

  • The bottle was (a little bit / nearly) empty.

  • Some train staff and a lot of passengers were standing near the gate.

  • I went to a (goodbye / farewell) party.

    • The drinks were really weak and were not cold. (NOT lukewarm)

    • We want to try the farewell party again. (NOT we want to revenge)

Vocabulary

  • Sick (to one’s stomach); feeling nauseous

  • Weak; (adj) having little flavour or power

  • Strong; (adj) having a strong flavour or power

  • Lukewarm; (of liquid or food that should be hot) not warm enough

  • Outgoing; friendly and likes to talk to and meet new people

  • He has a short beard.

  • She has long blonde hair.

    • She has long hair and its blonde. (NOT long hair and blonde)

  • She has a lot of tattoos.

  • He has short curly hair.

  • We sometimes want to avoid certain hurtful words, like “fat”, “overweight” etc, so we use softer terms

    • He’s a big guy.

    • He’s large.
