Lesson Notes July 4, 2023 (TUESDAY ZOOM)

  • I had a cold last week, my voice might still sound nasally.

    • I had a tickle in my throat.

    • Has your throat stopped tickling from last week?

  • Thunder storm; (noun) a storm with thunder and lightning and typically also heavy rain or hail

    • Did you hear the thunder storm last night?

    • Did you hear the thunder last night?

    • Did you see the lightning last night?

  • Flood (verb) become swollen and overflow (its banks)

    • A river somewhere in Kyushu flooded and damaged houses.

  • Flood (noun) an overflow of a large amount of water beyond its normal limits, especially over what is normally dry land

    • There was a flood in Komae many years ago which damaged houses along the Tama River.

  • Hail; (noun) pellets of frozen rain which fall in showers

    • Rain and hail bounced off the tiled roof.

  • Hail (verb) hail falls

    • It was hailing in Alberta the other day, the hail was large and damaged homes and cars.

  • A: Is the building under construction?
    B: No, it’s being demolished. And will be constructed sometime later.

  • Apartment Complex; a large building or group of buildings, often with shared amenities, garden, recreational facilities, shopping etc

    • In one area of Komae there is a large apartment complex, but not so many amenities. There looks to be a lot of vacant apartments.
