Words & Phrases

  • Can you see me well? I’m going to turn on a light.

  • The doctor gave me an inhaler for my cough.

  • I have a congested (nose / throat / chest).

  • My husband lost the family’s house keys. I searched everywhere, but I couldn’t find them.

    • We found the keys in the cushions.

    • I told him “Don’t put our keys in your pocket”.

  • My friend gained 8 kilograms over the holidays.

    • I want to lose 2 kilograms this year.

Pronunciation

  • Congested ( kənˈdʒɛs.tɪd ) con-GEST-ed

Appropriate Language

  • “New Year’s” can mean December 31 and January 1, or generally the time around these days (NOT New Year’s Days)

  • “New Year’s Eve” is the evening of December 31

  • “New Year’s Day” is the day of January 1
