Words & Phrases

  • His face looks totally different in the ring and out of the ring.

  • We skipped the morning activities of the tour since I wasn’t feeling well.

    • We caught up with the tour in Lisbon.

    • We bought reserved tickets for the train towards Lisbon.

  • The taxi driver didn’t speak any English, he only spoke Portuguese.

  • In my university days I would often go skiing in Hakuba.

    • When I was a college student I went skinning there as well.

  • The ski (slope / run) was modernized for the Nagano Olympics back in the 90’s.

  • Some of the ladies in my tour group drank at every meal.

  • I felt there were some similarities between Portuguese and Japanese.

Appropriate Language

  • The Japanese word “ゲレンデ” comes from the German word “Gelände”, in English we use “slope” or “run”

    • “Slope” is typically used for a general description, while “run” refers to a more specific path or trail.
