Lesson Notes January 17, 2023 (Elementary)

  • (Company / Department / Sales / etc) Manager; person who controls or administers staff

  • Supervisor; person who observes and directs the work of someone

  • I will use these vegetables for juices. (NOT leaves)

    • What does that vegetable taste like?

  • I went to the Setagaya Outdoor Flea Market.

  • キンカン in English is kumquat.

    • Your can eat the peel and pulp of kumquat.

  • Crash; (verb) (of a computer, computing system, or software) fail suddenly

    • Sorry, I am back. Zoom crashed.

At the coffee shop

  • Inn; a pub or like a house that provides food and accommodation

  • Tip; we can use the verbs give or leave

    • I gave the housecleaning staff a generous tip for all their work.

    • Should we leave a tip for the waiter or put it on the bill?

  • 町内会 is (neighbourhood / community) association in English

  • Gratuity; (formal) a tip given to a waiter, taxi driver, etc

    • A 20% gratuity will be included on your bill.

Business People

  • e.g.; for example

  • Entrepreneur ( ahn-truh-pruh-nur or -noor )

Homework: Business People; review section 1 vocabulary, focus on pronunciation. Try to read section 3 once without checking a dictionary
