Words & Phrases

  • I went to a shrine near Fuchu Station. (NOT the Fuchu Station)

  • I went to a plant market at a shrine near the station.

  • Have you been to the Boro Ichi Flea Market?

  • The winds that cause wildfires around Los Angeles are called the Santa Ana winds.

    • These are strong, dry winds that blow from the inland deserts towards the coast in winter.

    • They can dry out vegetation and spread wildfires quickly.

  • My husband was sick so he went to the doctor. After a couple of hours he couldn’t see the doctor.

  • Telemedicine is becoming more and more common in Japan.

    • Doctors use video calls to help diagnose patients and give medical advice.

Grammar

  • When using greetings like “Happy New Year’s” or “Happy Birthday” we don’t use “a” or “the” because they are fixed phrases

  • When refer to a specific event or time we need to use “a”

    • I hope you have a happy New Year’s”

    • Did you have a happy birthday last week?

Appropriate Language

  • Flower market focuses on cut flowers, flower arrangements, and maybe flower seeds.

  • Plant market is broader and includes a variety of plants, including flowers, shrubs, trees, vegetables, herbs and more

  • A flea market is where people buy and sell used items, vintage goods, antiques and other second-hand items.

  • Telemedicine is when doctors use technology, like phones or computers, to talk to or help patients without seeing them in person. It helps people get medical advice or treatment from a distance.
