Words & Phrases

  • One type of sakura isn’t blooming because of (cold air / a cold front).

    • Only a small amount of them are blooming.

    • Their blooming is delayed because of the cold.

  • I have to climb up a bunch of stairs to get to my apartment.

  • When did you move to the place you’re in now?

  • Did you move all your furniture to the current place? (NOT furnitures)

    • “Furniture” is an uncountable noun

  • Some construction companies don’t include landscaping or fencing when they build houses.

  • “Annuals” (noun) are plants that grow, bloom, and die within one year. Also called annual plants or annual flowers.

  • “Perennials” (noun) are plants that live for more than two years, regrowing each spring. Also called perennial plants or perennial flowers.

  • I planted some Christmas Roses at my entrance. They are blooming now.

    • Mine haven’t started blooming yet.

    • Mine haven’t bloomed yet.

Appropriate Language

You can sometimes use “garden” instead of “yard,” but they aren’t always interchangeable. Here’s the difference:

  • “Yard" refers to the outdoor space around a house, including the lawn, driveway, or open areas. It covers both front and back.

    • I’m planting flowers in the front yard.

  • “Garden” is usually a specific area for plants, flowers, or vegetables, often for cultivation.

    • She has a vegetable garden in her backyard.
