Words & Phrases

  • I can’t find the music in Japan.

  • The game controller has so many buttons.

    • He’s only three years old but can play games well.

  • I am not allowed to play cooperative games with my friends, I get too aggressive.

  • I like to play simple, one-player games like solitaire.

  • When I was a child, video games came on cartridges. (for game systems like the NES or Game Boy)

Pronunciation

  • Rarely (adv) ( ˈreə.li ) RARE-ly

  • Really (adv) ( ˈrɪə.li ) REAL-ly

Appropriate Language

To sound more natural when talking about breaking down a dance into manageable portions or steps, try these phrases (not “cut the dance”)

  • “I usually break the dance into smaller parts.”

  • “I usually split the dance into smaller sections.”

  • “I often divide the dance into smaller pieces.”

  • “I usually separate the dance into smaller segments.”

  • I like to read a book in the evening.

  • She will eat an apple after lunch.

  • We should watch a movie this weekend.

  • He wants to drink a coffee before work.

  • They are going to take a walk in the park.

Section 4

  • Adverbs of frequency are words that tell us how often something happens

  • You can add “almost” to some adverbs of frequency to change their meaning slightly.

    • Almost never: This means “very rarely” or “almost not at all.”

      • “I almost never go to the movies.”

    • Almost always: This means “very often” or “nearly always.”

      • “The trains in Tokyo are almost always on time.”
