Lesson Notes February 20, 2024 (TUESDAY ZOOM)

  • All morning I was pulling the weeds in my garden.

    • I weeded my garden.

    • This morning I weeded my bonsai pots.

  • I saw a kawazakura growing in someone’s yard.

  • The weeds have begun to sprout.

    • My flower pots are full of green sprouts.

  • Before planting the seeds, you should let them germinate on a wet paper towel in your fridge.

  • It’s the season when many plants and weeds start to germinate.

  • This spring I want to make a small garden in the corner of my yard.

  • Some Christmas roses can grow in the shade, they don’t always need direct sunlight.

Vocabulary

  • Weed; (verb) to remove unwanted plants from an area of ground

    • Weed; (noun) a wild plant growing where it isn’t wanted; an unwanted plant

  • Yard; refers to the outdoor area surrounding a house, including the front yard and backyard

  • Garden; a portion of the yard that is cultivated for growing plants, such as flowers, vegetables, herbs, or ornamental plants

  • Germinate; (verb) (of a seed or spore) begin to grow

  • Sprout; (verb) (of a plant) put out shoots

    • Sprout; (noun) a shoot of a plant
