Words & Phrases

  • I did nothing special. Hmm … what did I do?

  • They left for Nagano at 6 o’clock this morning.

    • The mountain road was closed, so they turned around and went in a different direction.

    • The road was closed because a bus was stuck.

  • The wind outside is making the temperature feel a little cooler.

  • My family and I went skiing together when I was younger.

  • I passed through Mizonokuchi station on my way to high school.

  • The fried rice we ordered was topped with edamame.

  • Do you have a rose trellis?

    • Yes, I do. I had to tie a lot of stems, and my neck was stiff and sore afterward.

  • The berries in my garden are weaker than the roses.

    • The berries in my garden are not as strong as the roses.

    • The roses are stronger than the berries.

  • I think my orchid needs another pot.

    • My orchid needs transplanting into a bigger pot.

Grammar

  • The structure “go + verb-ing” is used to describe an activity or hobby, usually referring to an action that someone regularly does or enjoys in their free time. It often describes activities like sports, games, or recreational pastimes.

    • “I go swimming every morning.”

    • “We go hiking on weekends.”

    • “She goes jogging after work.”

Pronunciation

  • Disinfect (verb) ( ˌdɪsɪnˈfɛkt ) dis-in-FECT

    • To clean something in order to remove bacteria, viruses, or other harmful substances

Appropriate Language

  • “They headed to Nagano at 6 this morning.” (More casual)

  • "The road was closed because a bus was stranded.” (Good for situations where the bus is unable to move for a long time)
