Words & Phrases

  • How many glasses of wine did you drink?

    • How much wine did you drink?

  • I haven’t recovered from my cough yet, but I am better than before.

  • I heard on the news that there isn’t much cold and influenza medicine in the drug stores.

    • There is a shortage of medicine.

  • I went to the police station to renew my driver’s license.

  • I have a medical check-up next month.

  • His work finished in Nagano, so he is moving back to Kawasaki.

  • Most people prefer to eat the dark meat of a turkey at Christmas.

Appropriate Language

  • ‘Check-up’ is the usual term for a scheduled medical examination

  • Poultry has white meat and dark meat

    • White meat; found in the breast and wings. Generally leaner, with less fat; tends to be dry when cooked for a long time

    • Dark meat; found in the thighs and drumsticks. Generally more fat, richer in flavour and moister

Prepare and Cook Food

  • Let the daikon drain any excess water.

  • Slice into thin strips. (NOT stripes)
