Words & Phrases

  • Our hula group will be performing in a choral recital. (NOT chorus recital)

  • Assembly; like a legislative body of a city, prefecture (state, province etc), national government

    • Our choral group will be performing a song that is sung at Hawaiian assemblies.

  • To test the fire alarm we are supposed to pull it once a year.

  • Condominiums and apartments have more checks than a house.

    • The elevators are regularly checked every so often.

  • The trees should be trimmed once a year, but the garden should be weeded almost weekly.

  • A weed trimmer has either a nylon string or blade for cutting grass or weeds.

    • Also called; (trademark names) Weedwacker, Weed Eater, Whipper Snipper

  • The best paid job is company director.

    • A company director is the best paying job.

  • Doctors work long hours.
