Lesson Notes September 24, 2024 (Elementary)

Words & Phrases

  • Tai chi; callisthenics with very slow controlled movements

    • I did tai chi for the first time at a nearby park.

    • It looks like a martial arts.

    • How long did you do tai chi?

  • Some people walk like ducks, and others walk like pigeons. Very few people walk with their feet straight.

  • I watched several performances this past weekend. (NOT I watched several stages)

    • Stage; (noun) a raised platform where actors, entertainers or speakers perform.

  • Does anyone know where the fireworks were on the weekend?

Neighbourhood

Reading

  • Entrance; where you enter a station or shop

  • Ticket gates; the area where passengers enter or exit by scanning their ticket, pass, or card

  • There is a pond in the park where turtles and carp live. (The singular and plural form are the same; carp, NOT carps)

  • Quiet reflection; calmly thinking or meditating, especially about recent people or events (whether good or bad)

Homework

  • Neighbourhood Reading; read the article again and answer the comprehension questions; look for any vocabulary or sentences you are unsure or or that you do not know
