Words & Phrases

  • Did anyone watch the American Presidential Debate?

  • A whistle-blower is someone who tells others, usually the public or authorities, about something wrong or illegal happening in a company or organization.

    • They "blow the whistle" to stop bad actions or behaviour.

  • It’s hard to believe the actions and attitude of the Governor of Hyogo.

  • The phrase "commit suicide" is still used, but many people and organizations now prefer more sensitive language. Instead, phrases like "died by suicide” are often used now.

  • The water in the valley evaporated and it eventually became a desert.

  • There are plenty of people who don’t follow the rules. (NOT keep the rules)

  • There are still many people from Asia who emigrate to North America.
