Words & Phrases

  • I’m very happy to be back from my holidays.

  • Nowadays, a lot of reservations are made using your smartphone.

  • How many days did you stay?

    • In the later half of our travels, we stayed in Spain.

    • For the later part of our travels, we stayed in Spain.

  • Autumn suddenly came.

    • Summer dragged on. (= continued slowly)

  • I suffer from year around allergies.

    • My friend has seasonal allergies.

    • I have allergies in (spring / summer etc)

  • Do you know what your allergens are? (= the substances that cause an allergy)

  • 6 “The word can get a bit” + negative word

  • 7 “I find my job” + (positive word / negative word)

  • For this job, you should have a bookkeeper's qualification, but I’m a part-timer, so I don’t need it.

  • I work as a front desk staff at a horse riding club. (NOT as a front desk)

    • I work at the front desk at a horse riding club.

  • You also needed to be good at typing.

    • You also needed to have good typing skills.

  • I’m responsible for cutting hair. (NOT hairs)

  • I find my job motivating. (NOT motivated)

  • As a teacher, I was responsible for teaching and raising children.
