Topic: Space

Lesson Notes October 24, 2023 (Vocabulary Building)

  • Did you (get / take) any medicine for your fever?

  • I felt drained at work recently.

  • What did you (have / eat) at the cafe?

    • I had a (plain / vanilla / matcha / chocolate etc) cake. (It’s often more important to say the flavour of the dessert, rather than the dessert style)

    • The cafe doesn’t serve lunch. (= They don’t have lunch.)

Vocabulary

  • Muscle ache; a milder, uncomfortable feeling in your muscles

  • Muscle pain; a stronger, often hurting sensation in your muscles

  • Get medicine; purchase yourself, or be given by someone (like a doctor)

  • Take medicine; ingest medicine

  • Drain; (verb) (of feeling, emotion, energy etc) to become less strong

Space

Section 3 “as … as”

  • We use “as … as” to say two things are the same or different in some way

    • Mercury isn’t as big as Jupiter. It’s much smaller.

    • Earth is almost as small as Venus.

    • The Earth doesn’t have as many satellites as Jupiter.

  • Observatory ( uhb-ZER-vuh-tawr-ee )

  • Astronomer ( uh-STRON-uh-mer )

  • Astronaut (AS-truh-nawt )

Homework; Space Section 5; check and English dictionary to see the other meanings of those words. You might want to write your own example sentence to help you remember
