Topic: Wintertime

Lesson Notes November 7, 2023 (Vocabulary Building)

  • My friends sent me messages (on Line) about the rain and wind last night. (NOT my friend Lined me; see below for explanation)

  • I missed my connecting flight, so the airline booked me on flights through Thailand.

  • Some of the cathedrals kept their original 5th century mosaic ceilings.

    • The motifs from this century were very free and naturalistic.

  • Did you encounter anything dangerous during your trip?

    • Did you run into any troubles on your trip?

Vocabulary

  • Google; (verb) to search for something online, especially using Google Search Engine.

    • Other companies that can be used as a verb Uber, Xerox, Skype, Photoshop, unfortunately “Line” cannot be used

  • Motif; (noun) a decorative image or design

  • Hot pot; (noun) (in East Asian cooking) a dish consisting of raw ingredients such as thinly sliced meat and vegetables that are cooked by diners at the table by dipping them in boiling broth

Wintertime

  • A: Do you like winter?
    B: Yes, I do.
    A: Why do you like winter?

  • We can use a variety of adjectives with seasons, for example;

    • Mild winter

    • (Hot / uncomfortable) (summer / autumn)

    • Wet spring

    • Dry rainy season
