  • Compare these two sentences

    • Four of you are wearing blue shirts today, you look very cool. (= I am not wearing blue, but four other people are …)

    • Four of us are wearing … (= Three people and I are wearing …)

  • Paisley; a distinctive, intricate design motif, typically consists of a curved teardrop with a curved top and a pointy end, often resembling a stylized a droplet

    • Is that a paisley pattern?

    • I’m looking for a paisley tie, do you carry any in your store?

    • I bought a beautiful scarf with a paisley design, and it has colourful curved shapes on it.

  • A: I can’t sing, but I have played piano since I was a child.
    B: You’ve been playing a long time. (NOT you played a long time)

Gestures

  • It’s bad manners to throw garbage (away) on the street.

  • It’s good manners to hold the elevator door open.

  • It’s good manners to clean up your dog’s droppings on the street.

    • Droppings; (plural noun) the excrement of certain animals, such as rodents, sheep, birds, and insects

  • It’s good manners to greet your neighbour’s when out walking.

  • In libraries it’s good manners to put (back / away) books where they belong.

  • What do you do when you meet someone for the first time?

  • What gestures do you use to end a conflict with someone?

  • At a baseball game when the other team is at bat we often stomp our feet.
