Words & Phrases

  • I think half of my shirts are patterned and the rest are monochrome, single colour shirts.

  • I thought the park would be well-manicured, but it had a more natural atmosphere.

  • There were a lot of tourists, but I don’t know where they come from.

  • I bought two pieces of apple pie, one for me and the other for my husband.

    • One of the pies is cinnamon-flavoured.

  • I really enjoyed walked around the streets.

    • We enjoyed strolling through the streets.

  • The Toneri Liner is like a monorail and is driverless.

    • The Liner is only three or four cars.

  • I’ve ridden the Tama Monorail countless times.

Appropriate Language

  • Blossom (verb); To start growing flowers.

    • The cherry trees begin to blossom in early April.

    • I love watching the flowers blossom after winter ends.

    • The garden is beautiful in spring when all the trees blossom.

  • In full bloom (noun phrase); When flowers are fully open and look beautiful.

    • The cherry blossoms are in full bloom this week, so many people are visiting the park.

    • By the end of March, the trees will be in full bloom.

    • We took photos of the flowers while they were in full bloom.

  • Nostalgia (noun); A sentimental longing for the past, often with happy memories.

    • Seeing my childhood home filled me with nostalgia.

    • He felt a wave of nostalgia when he listened to old songs from his youth.

    • The movie brought back a sense of nostalgia for the 90s.

  • Nostalgic (adj); Feeling or causing a longing for the past.

    • She felt nostalgic while looking at her old photo albums.

    • The smell of fresh-baked cookies made him nostalgic for his grandmother’s house.

    • He became nostalgic when he saw his childhood toys.
