  • A: What did you do on the island?
    B: We (went / did) whale watching.

  • The male whales wanted to mate with the female.

  • The weather was fine, the boat wasn’t swaying in the waves.

  • I think it’s a waste of time to speculate about his situation.

  • The Osaka sumo tournament was really exciting! (NOT was really excited)

    • "-ing" adjectives describe the quality of something

  • I was so excited watching the Osaka sumo tournament! (NOT I was so exciting)

    • "-ed" adjectives describe the feeling of the person experiencing it

  • If he misses regional events or special events, he will not qualify for the next tournament.

  • A new building is being constructed near the station.

  • The road is being widened.

Vocabulary

  • Pod; a small group or herd of marine animals, especially whales and dolphins

  • Mate; (verb) (of animals or birds) come together for breeding; copulate

  • Sway; (verb) move slowly or rhythmically backwards and forwards or from side to side

  • Speculate; (verb) make guess, think about, theorize
