The area was celebrating it’s 10 year anniversary. (NOT ten years anniversary / ten year memorial)
I want to go see weeping cherry blossoms this weekend.
Vocabulary
Humpback whale
Anniversary; anniversaries celebrate events, marriages, companies opening
Memorial; honour people who have passed away, or events where people died
Clothes
Section 2
Since there is only one man and one woman in the photo we describe them in this fashion:
The man on the left is wearing a jacket. (NOT A man …)
The woman on the right is wearing a hat. (NOT A woman …)
Section 4
3 Susan likes expensive clothes. Her wardrobe is full of cashmere sweaters. (“Full of” is often followed by a plural or uncountable noun)
4 Bob worked for two months to save up for his Harley Davidson leather jacket.
“Save up” means to keep money over time until you have enough to buy or do something you want
I’m saving up for a new house.
Our daughter was just born a month ago, we starting saving up for her university education.
I have been saving up for a month-long holiday across Europe.
Describing Clothes & Accessories
When we describe clothes and accessories, we often use compound words. These are words formed by combing two (or three) words. These can be made with adjectives, nouns or prepositions.
Here are some compound words we use to describe clothes;
Striped / white / patterned / high-heeled / round-neck / V-neck / grey / checked / ankle / short-sleeved / lace-up / plain / shoulder / zip-up / green / denim / over / knitted
