  • Most of the curling games start at 3am. (NOT three o’clock midnight)

    • Most of the curling games start at three in the morning.

    • Most of the curling games start in the middle of the night. (= a time that is considered very late at night, especially between 12:00am and 4:00am)

  • His baseball career lasted only seven years. (= this sentence emphasizes that his career ended after seven years)

    • His baseball career was only seven years. (= this sentence says his career was seven years in length)

  • Even though the WBC ended a couple of days ago, TV stations are still showing parts of the game and various interviews.

    • I don’t like (playing / doing) sports.

      • Playing is more accurate to describe engaging in sports or games

      • Do is more often used for activities like exercise or physical fitness routines that are not necessarily competitive or organized

  • My favourite cherry blossom area was cut down and turned into a sports ground.

  • Should; used to talk about obligation, duty, to give advice, and to say what we think it is right for people to do

    • Starting next month the law says everyone should wear a bicycle helmet.

    • Everyone should be careful when riding a bicycle.

    • Drivers should pay attention to cyclists.

    • You shouldn’t ride your bike and look at your smart phone.
