  • He’s trying to change his image, he wants to appear more likeable to people. (= the general impression that a person, organization, or product presents to the public)

  • Gossip; (noun) talk or reports that typically involve details that are not confirmed as being true

Compare these two sentences; note the differences in meaning

  • The president assassinated his political rival.

    • This sentence implies that the president directly carried out the assassination.

  • The president had his political rival assassinated.

    • The emphasis is on the president's role in ordering or orchestrating the assassination, rather than directly committing the act himself.

We use have + object + past participle with a passive meaning, to talk about actions, tasks, jobs etc which are done for us by other people

  • I need to have my shoes repaired.

  • I had my hair cut the other day, does it look different?

  • We were too tired to cook, so we had dinner delivered.

  • Lucy had her eyes tested yesterday, and she needs glasses.

  • I had my air conditioners cleaned.

  • The company had its website redesigned to improve user experience.
