  • Symptoms; (noun) physical or emotional signs that show something is wrong with your body or mind.

    • They can be things like pain, coughing, fever, tiredness, or feeling sad.

  • It wasn’t raining this morning, but there were some rain drops.

  • When the camel I rode stood up, I felt like I was about to fall off.

  • Be careful when you travel, you shouldn’t drink fresh water or use ice cubes.

  • I’ll be interested to hear about your (vacation / travel / tour) when you return.

  • When you travel, who decides where to go?

    • When I travel, my husband makes most of the decisions. (NOT he makes)

  • It is not common or grammatically correct to use a person's name with the term "couple" to refer to a married couple.

    • Susan and her husband like to travel. (NOT Susan’s couple like to travel)

    • The couple next door plan to renovate their house. (= The two people in a romantic or long term relationship next door)

  • Fracture; (verb) fractures, fracturing, fractured (past & past participle) to crack or to break a bone, or other hard objects & materials

    • She fell down and fractured her arm.

  • Recess (noun) a break between school classes

    • Children are required to go outside during their lunch recess to play and get fresh air.

  • Repair focuses on fixing something that is broken or not working correctly; for objects like furniture, vehicles etc

    • The plumber came to repair the leaking faucet in the kitchen.

    • My bicycle tire is flat, it needs to be repaired.

  • Renovate involves making aesthetic or cosmetic improvements to update or enhance the appearance of a space or object; typically includes cosmetic changes like painting, replacing flooring, or updating fixtures.

    • They decided to renovate their bathroom by installing new tiles and fixtures.

    • The old house was renovated to give it a more modern and stylish look.

  • Reform typically refers to making significant changes to improve or transform something; often on larger-scale changes in systems or institutions.

    • The government implemented reforms to improve the education system.

    • The organization is pushing for legal reforms to protect the rights of workers.

Introduction to the word tour

  • Private tour; an exclusive and customized travel experience for an individual or small group of people; often with a dedicated tour guide

  • Self-guided tour;  you explore a destination on your own, without a designated tour guide

  • Referring to the entire group:

    • "Our tour consists of 40 individuals.”

    • "We're a large group on this tour.”

  • Describing the group's activities:

    • "During the tour, we will visit various destinations,”

    • "The tour includes sightseeing, cultural activities, and group meals.”

  • Talking about the tour itinerary, accommodations, transportation, and tour guide

    • "We have a packed itinerary for our tour.”

    • "Our tour provides comfortable accommodations and a knowledgeable guide.”

  • Discussing interactions within the group:

    • "Being part of a large tour allows us to meet new people and make friends.”

    • “We have formed a tight-knit community during the tour.”

Compound words using tour; these are just a few examples

  • Sightseeing tour: It can be conducted with or without a guide

  • Guided tour: a guide is typically an integral part of a guided tour

  • City tour: can be conducted with or without a guide, for example hop-on-hop-off bus tours with pre-recorded audio guides, while others may have live guides leading the tour.

  • Walking tour: often involve a guide who leads the participants on foot, sharing information, stories, and historical facts about the places visited.

  • Bus tour: Bus tours may or may not include a guide.

  • Wine tour: some wine tours include a guide who provides information about the wineries, wine production, and facilitates tastings, while others may be self-guided

  • Cultural tour: Cultural tours can have guides to offer insights into local culture, traditions, and historical significance.

  • Adventure tour: Adventure tours may or may not involve guides.
