    • The term "attack" implies intent, which is not present in natural disasters.

      • I was attacked by a dog on my walk home.

      • A man wearing a black coat attacked my car with a baseball bat.

    • For natural disasters such as earthquakes, hurricanes, floods, wildfires, tsunamis, and volcanic eruptions etc. we use “hit

      • A hurricane hit the town last year.

      • The small coastal town was hit by a tsunamis, luckily no one was injured.

  • Where is the coolest place in Kanto? (NOT the most cool place)

    • There’s a city in Ibaraki where the sea wind blows, so it’s a cooler area.

  • The Japanese government has a plan to release contaminated water from the damaged nuclear reactor.

  • One government said it’s safe, the other government said the opposite. (= the other government said it was not safe)

  • What temperature do you set your air conditioner at? (NOT how temperature)

  • I put the air conditioner’s remote control on my side of the bed.

    • My remote control’s buttons glow in the dark.

    • With most air conditioners you can control the (direction / angle) of the air, either up or down and left or right.

  • My ceiling has a skylight (window) which automatically closes when it rains.

    • Skylight; (noun) a window set in a roof or ceiling
