Words & Phrases

  • This supermarket has blocks of sashimi.

  • I went out at noon today, it was like being in a frying pan.

  • Flutter; (of thin or light things) moves up and down, side to side, with quick light movements

    • I was fluttering about looking for something before leaving the house.

    • I saw a butterfly fluttering its wings in my garden.

    • The leaves were fluttering in the light breeze.

  • The number one most popular answer was volleyball.

  • Are you looking forward to watching any of the gymnastics events during the Olympics? (Gymnastics; (plural & singular noun) (Not to be confused with gymnastic which is an adjective)

    • I really want to watch some track events.

    • My daughter likes to watch field events.

  • The team’s best scorer is compact and fast. (Compact (adj); (of a person or animal) small, strong, and well proportioned)

    • She looks boyish.

  • His wrestling style is ok. (Ok; satisfactory, but not especially good)

  • Baby face (noun) a smooth round face, like a baby’s

  • Baby-faced (adj) having a youthful or innocent face

  • I stayed at our cottage in Nagano alone for the first time.

  • Furniture is typically used for sitting, sleeping, and storing items.

  • Appliances are used for tasks such as cooking, cleaning, and food preservation.

  • If something is bumpy the surface is uneven, and not smooth.

  • I can lower and raise the shelves in my kitchen. Unfortunately it’s manual, the automatic system was too expensive.
