Lesson Notes January 30, 2023 (TUESDAY ZOOM)

  • It was rather cool inside, so you needed to wear something.

  • The city is known for their traffic jams, so it’s more convenient to take trains.

  • When is lotus season? Were the lotuses in bloom?

  • The city boasts a very large greenhouse where they grow many kinds of flowers.

  • I bought a train pass, it was like a PASMO.

    • I got a one year pass to the botanical garden. I can visit the garden as often as I like.

  • I bought a travel package, it included airfare and accommodation.

  • Laksa is a spicy coconut noodle soup, it’s very delicious. (NOT coconut noodles)

  • If he had been caught right after the bombing 50 years ago, what would his sentence have been? (We use past perfect tense to talk about a hypothetical past event)

    • They believed in their radical ideas and violence to achieve their goals.

  • I’ve heard that the Emperor’s vehicles are all bulletproof.

Vocabulary

  • We use “famous” for things that are renowned or talked about by man people, typically this has a positive image

  • (Train / bus etc) pass; a card that gives special access.

  • Bulletproof; (adj) to resist bullets
