Lesson Notes December 5, 2023 (TUESDAY ZOOM)

  • If you’re having troubles with a program or your pc, you should quit the program and then shut down your pc. Wait about 3 minutes. Then turn it back on.

  • Do you have a phone? (= can mean a telephone or mobile phone)

  • The cafe we went to only took QR codes or cards, they don’t accept cash.

  • The other day at the bank I forgot my PIN (code).

  • I pay around ¥115 per month for my bank statement.

  • Some banks are trying to diversify their business to become more lucrative.

  • I don’t pay any fees if I send money online. If I use an ATM it costs me around ¥330.

  • The government wants to eradicate muntjac deer in Japan. They are not native to the country and are causing problems.

Vocabulary

  • PIN; Personal Identification Number - it’s not necessary to say “PIN code”

  • Bank statement; a printed record of monthly transactions

  • Lucrative; producing a great deal of profit; advantageous, better, favourable, profitable

  • Muntjac; ( MUHNT-jak ) a small South East Asian deer, also called “barking deer”
