Words & Phrases

  • I bought a Hello Kitty ice cream cake.

    • What flavour is the cake?

  • My son scolded his daughter for bad behaviour. (= reprimand)

  • There was a large helium filled balloon.

  • This winter I’ve only gotten the flu vaccination.

Pronunciation

  • Shingles ( ˈʃɪŋ.ɡəlz ) SHIN-gles

  • Singles ( ˈsɪŋ.ɡəlz ) SIN-gles

Appropriate Language

  • ‘Flu’ is more common and informal term used in everyday speech, while ‘influenza’ is the formal term, typically used in medical contexts

Stress-Free; emphasizes a lack of tension, worry, or pressure

Describing an experience

  • “My vacation was stress-free, and I enjoyed every moment.”

  • “The weekend was stress-free because I didn’t have any homework.”

Describing a situation or environment:

  • “The meeting was stress-free, and everyone shared their ideas openly.”
