Words & Phrases

  • Each of the students brings their own homework. (‘Homework” is a mass noun, it’s uncountable)

    • I have three pieces of homework to do tonight after school.

  • On a crowded train, it’s best to wear your backpack on your front, rather on your back.

  • Do you put up any (Christmas / New Year’s / Valentines etc) decorations?

  • If I go to the company stable I always bring a couple of carrots for the horses.

Work Words

Section 4

  • Housewife; a woman who manages a household and takes care of family members, typically without being employed outside the home

    • Homemaker; a person (man or woman) who manages the household, including taste like cooking, cleaning and caring for family members

    • Housekeeper; a person, often employed, who cleans and maintains a home or a hotel room.

  • I always write part-timer when a form asks me for my occupation.

  • When Kris was a kid, he dreamed of a career as a palaeontologist.
