Topic: Prepare and Cook Food

Lesson Notes December 17, 2024 (Elementary)

Words & Phrases

  • I have a bad cough. Sometimes I have coughing fits and feel pain in my lungs.

  • My son and I don’t want him to undergo surgery.

  • I have a short story to tell. (NOT a small story)

  • There was a festival held near the station.

    • We are holding Christmas dinner at our house this year.

  • We went to a Christmas stamp workshop. My grandson stamped his paper many times.

  • I started cleaning my room, but I got sidetracked by my phone.

    • Walking to the event we my grandkids got sidetracked.

  • Some Apple Watches can take EKG. (= Electrocardiogram)

Appropriate Language

  • Coughing fits; repeated and uncontrollable coughs; sometimes short or long time

  • Laughing fits; sudden, uncontrollable period of laughter

  • Sneezing fits; a period of repeated sneezing

  • Crying fits; intense and uncontrollable period of crying

Prepare and Cook Food

Exercise 01 - Sequencing

  • 1 Granules; small, grain-like particles

    • Spring onion is the same as green onion, it’s long and thin

    • Dashi; a Japanese soup stock

    • (Chicken / beef / pork / vegetable etc) stock

  • 2 ‘Stir-fry’ is a compound word that is both a noun and verb

  • 3 ‘Marinate’ is a verb (= action) and ‘marinade’ is a noun (= the mixture)
