Lesson Notes August 8, 2023 (Vocabulary Building)

  • My air conditioner’s condenser throws a lot of heat in summer.

  • Most apartments in Japan have condensers on their balconies.

  • Don’t confuse these two situations

    • A Tokaido line train hit a fallen pole.

    • A pole fell and hit a Tokaido line train.

  • A: You aren’t performing this summer?
    B: (No / Yeah), I am not performing. (NOT Yes, I am not performing)

  • He (mocks / ridicules / makes fun of) my favourite baseball team when they lose.

Cities & People

  • Section 4.8 A rubbish bin; a garbage can, a trash can

  • Section 4.3 Pedestrian crossing

  • We use “say” when talking about representation of signs, lights, notes, etc

    • The traffic light says stop.

    • The sign says it’s safe to cross the street.

    • I believe this sign says shared space for walking and cyclists.

    • What does this sign say? I don’t understand it.

  • You shouldn’t use public garbage cans for household garbage.

  • Many convenience stores no longer have trash cans for personal garbage.

  • Lively; (adjective) full of activity and excitement.

  • Touristy; (adj) visited or used by tourists, often in a negative sense
