  • “My son went to work.” (This is a more natural sounding way, rather than “my son went to his work”)

  • My granddaughter got sick and I had to take care of her. I think she maybe had (a) stomach flu. (NOT stomach influenza)

    • Stomach flu also known as viral gastroenteritis, is a common term used to describe an infection of the stomach and intestines.

  • A: When does the new school term start in Canada?
    B: The new school year term typically starts around September.

  • (What / Which) Keio campus did you (attend / go to)?

  • The universities my friends and I attended were among the top schools in the country.

  • “Graduate” has different pronunciation, depending on the form

    • We graduated from the same school. (Verb: graduate) ( GRAJ-oo-eyt )

    • We are graduates from the same school. (Noun; graduate) (GRAJ-oo-it)

    • I took some graduate courses in medicine. (Adjective ; graduate) (GRAJ-oo-it)

  • There was a young man on the ground, his face looked awfully pale. I think he had heat stroke.

  • This week I went to the Machida City Museum of Graphic Arts to see an exhibit.

  • I finally saw a dragonfly this week.

    • In most of Canada we see dragonflies from late spring until early autumn.

  • I think to everyone the outcome of the news story was obvious. (= easily understood, clear, apparent)

  • Should have …

    • We can use “should + have + past participle” to talk about the past, especially think which did not happen

    • He should have been more careful, flying around on his private jet was dangerous. Now he is dead.

    • I should have phoned my parents this morning, but I forgot.

    • It’s now after lunch, I scheduled my delivery for this morning. It should have arrived by now.
