Topic: In The Countryside

Lesson Notes August 22, 2023 (Vocabulary Building)

  • I don’t know the English name of ダケカンバ, it’s a brown-bark tree.

  • During Obon I decorate with Chinese lantern plants.

  • Repeat a (grade / class)

    • John is going to repeat 10 grade due to failing some subjects.

  • Held back

    • Jack was held back a grade because he didn't pass all his classes.

  • Failed a (grade / class)

    • Emily failed math and needs to repeat it next year. She won’t advance to the next grade.

The Countryside

  • A footpath, a path, a trail

  • Shepard ( SHEP-erd )

    • Cattle farmer

    • Chicken farmer

    • Pig farmer

    • Dairy farmer

  • Typically we can use “visit” to mean go and stay, or spend-time doing something

    • When I was young I visited a farm to experience farm life.

    • I like to visit hot-springs in the countryside.

    • When the weather gets cooler, let’s go around and visit some parks.
