  • We had to cancel our tennis games because of the typhoon rain.

  • The typhoon brought some sudden downpours in the middle of the night this past week.

  • As soon as she starts her car her dog starts barking. Our shutter faces their house. It get annoying. (NOT faced their house)

  • The neighbour's dog barks pointlessly all the time.

  • How many grandchildren do you have? (NOT grandchild)

  • Working Class; typically have limited access to education and fewer opportunities for social mobility (for example; factory workers, retail employees, and service industry workers)

  • Middle Class; usually have higher levels of education and enjoy a more stable income compared to the working class (for example; white-collar professionals, including office workers, teachers, nurses, and skilled technicians)

  • I saw a commercial for a rather expensive retirement home. I was shocked to learn that almost all the rooms in the retirement home were occupied.

  • We use “retirement home" to refer to an institution for elderly people requiring care; frequently, it takes the form of an apartment or condominium, rather than an actual house.

  • The dance teacher is around eighty years old, and she has about 100 students. (NOT her students are around 100; this sounds like ‘her students are around 100 years old)

  • Ballroom dancing; covers a wide range of social dancing for couples., such as waltz, foxtrot, cha-cha, swing, tango, salsa, etc

  • My joints are stiff like a rusty gate.

    • I fell asleep on the sofa in an odd position, now I have a stiff neck.

    • I rolled on my ankle, two days later it felt stiff and I had a limp.

    • My back is stiff as a board, I need to hit the onsen and then get a massage. (= extremely stiff)

  • A: What brought you to the performance? (NOT the stage)
    B: Some of my friends were performing that day.

  • There were a couple of people in the supermarket with a bad cough.
