Lesson Notes April 2, 2024 (TUESDAY ZOOM)

  • I went to one of the three major gardens in Japan last week.

    • The park makes pickles from the plums.

  • I think there are only two major public universities for women. (NOT ladies / girl)

  • She was seven years old when she went to university.

    • Who was the first woman to study abroad from Japan?

  • I took a walk along the Asao River, some of the cherry trees have blossoms, but most still have buds.

    • I think they need a few more days before they are in full bloom.

    • How about in your neighbourhood? (NOT neighbour)

    • There is only one weeping cherry blossom tree along the river.

Vocabulary

  • “Woman" is used to refer to an adult female; typically not used for children or teenagers

  • “Girl” is used to refer to a young female, typically a child or teenager

  • "Lady" is a polite term used to refer to a woman in a formal or respectful way

  • Weeping; (adj) used for trees and shrubs with drooping branches

  • ICU (Intensive Care Unit); in a hospital critically ill patients are kept here

  • (Astronomical) observatory; place where astronomers study objects in the sky like stars, planets, moons, and galaxies; typically using big telescopes
