Topic: Asking for Directions

Lesson Notes September 19, 2023 (Elementary)

  • A: I tried cleaning using the KonMari cleaning method.
    B: What did the book say?
    A: It said you should reduce your belongings. Keep only the things that spark joy.

  • How long have you lived in your house?

  • Watching her dance I felt star-struck, but I forgot to take notes.

    • It felt like a dream (come true)

  • I heard some news about some expensive fish and plants being stolen.

    • There are some bad people around.

  • Are you (growing / raising) killifish?

  • Last year, her killifish were eaten by a civet (cat).

Vocabulary

  • KonMari; a cleaning method made famous by Marie Kondo

  • Belongings; (plural noun) the moveable things that a person owns

  • Star-struck; (adj) being greatly impressed by a famous person

  • Get rid of (something); (phrase) to throw away, dispose, put in the garbage or to be free of unwanted things

    • I was finally able to get rid of some old clothes I didn’t want. Some my friends took, and the rest when to the recycling. 

Asking for Directions

  • We say “on the corner” for where a building is, but we use “at the corner” when saying where we will meet someone

    • The bank is on the corner.

    • I’ll meet you at the corner of Setagaya Street and Icho Avenue
