Topic: A Day Out

Lesson Notes October 3, 2023 (Vocabulary Building)

  • I mostly stood during the concert.

    • How long did you stand?

  • Apparently, they (shot / were shooting) video that day, and it’ll be released at a later date.

  • I didn’t want to get in trouble, so I followed all the concert rules.

  • In the studio they performed in front of a large audience. (NOT many audiences)

A Day Out

  • £7.50; (casually) seven fifty / £15; (common / formal) fifteen pounds

  • Watch the pronunciations of these similar looking words

    • Photograph ( FOH-tuh-graf )

    • Photography (  fuh-TOG-ruh-fee )

Vocabulary

  • Lyrics; (noun) the words of a song

  • Coined (words / phrases); invent a new word or phrase; a made-up word

  • “Toilet” has many synonyms, and can be used in various situations; at home, shopping centre, diner, fancy restaurant etc we might use different words

    • Lavatory

    • Bathroom

    • Water closet (WC)

    • The Ladies

    • The Gents

    • Power room

    • Restroom

    • The little girls’ room

    • The little boys’ room
