Lesson Notes May 9, 2023 (Vocabulary Building)

  • How long have you been using English?

    • I use English only when I travel.

    • I listen to a lot of English TV programs, so that’s how I use it.

  • How long have you been studying English?

    • I’ve been studying English on and off for many years.

  • Recently, prices have jumped up.

    • Recently, prices have experienced a significant increase.

  • I have few (chances / opportunities) to use English outside of class.

  • Have you been vaccinated against (covid-19 / influenza / measles etc)?

  • What are your hobbies?

    • Do you have any hobbies?

    • I don’t know if I can call it a hobby, but I like cooking at home.

    • If visiting museums is a hobby, that’s mine.

    • I enjoy walking around my neighbourhood. (NOT walking around my house)

    • I like to go to the Mount Fuji area. (NOT go to Mount Fuji area)

  • After the windy days we had I can see many fallen branches on the ground.

  • Nursery school; a school for young children, particularly those between the ages of three and five

    • Nursery; a place where young children are cared for during the working day

  • Naturalize; admit (a foreigner) to the citizenship of a country
