  • I’ve been feeling irritated everyday since construction began. (NOT irritating) (See Adjectives -ed and -ing below)

  • I’m getting ready to renovate my house, so I’m doing some decluttering. Decluttering is so hard because my children have so many books and old things.

  • "People were lining up to get into the restaurant." (Describing the action, using a verb phrase; to line up)

  • "There was a line of people waiting to get into the restaurant.” (Describing the situation, using a noun phrase; a line of people)

  • Whipped cream (noun) is typically made by whipping (gerund) heavy cream (nou) (also called whipping cream) until it thickens and forms soft peaks.

    • Heavy cream, also called whipping cream; fairly thick cream containing enough butterfat to make it suitable for whipping.

    • Whipped cream; cream, typically sweetened, that has been beaten until it is light and fluffy

Compare couch and sofa

    • In general, "couch" is a more casual term that may be used to refer to a smaller, simpler, or less formal seating option.

    • "Sofa," on the other hand, tends to be a more formal or sophisticated term and may be used to describe a larger, more luxurious or upholstered piece of furniture.

    • These two terms that are often used interchangeably to describe a piece of furniture designed for sitting or lounging.

Adjectives -ed and -ing

  • "-ed" adjectives are used to describe how someone or something feels after something happened

    • “I am tired after a long day out in the city.”

    • “I feel bored driving in a car for a long time.”

  • “-ing" adjectives describe what causes a feeling or reaction

    • “This movie is really interesting, don’t you think?”

    • “I find this book boring, I’m going to give up reading it.”

Compare Retirement Homes and Nursing Homes

  • Overall, retirement homes are geared toward older adults who want to maintain some independence while receiving support with daily tasks; also called assisted living facility

  • While nursing homes are designed for people who require more comprehensive medical care and supervision.

  • There are also Senior Apartments, Retirement Communities, and Continuing Care Retirement Communities;  these are residential buildings or communities that are designed specifically for older adults, with features and amenities tailored to their needs and preferences
