Lesson Notes June 27, 2023 (TUESDAY ZOOM)

  • Yesterday I had to (run / do) errands.

    • I’ve been putting off doing my dry-cleaning.

  • The interest rate is so low, there’s no difference between putting it in the bank or keeping it at home under your mattress.

    • I keep some money at home for a rainy day or an emergency.

    • Many people keep money stashed in the house altered.

    • Stash; (verb) store (something) safely in a hidden or secret place

  • I got a call, but I didn’t (pick up / answer) since I didn’t recognize the number.

    • I gave the temple everyone's phone numbers.

  • Third time is a charm

    • an expression that suggests that after two unsuccessful attempts, the third attempt will be successful or lucky

    • often used to encourage someone to try again with optimism and the belief that they will achieve success on their third try.

  • My air conditioners have a self-cleaning function.

    • I took out and cleaned the filters.

    • The AC that my husband cleaned started making a sound when we turned it off. The filter was out of position.

    • The error code was flashing.

  • Those colours get dirty easily.

    • White cars have a high resale value.

    • When I see a yellow car I always look at the driver.

  • Pawnshop; a pawnbroker's shop; a shop where people can pawn items to get money - with the ability to buy back the item at a later date
